A lot of men think "All women care about is looks or social status, nothing I do is ever going to make a difference unless I am a doctor with stunning good looks".
Now, I could write a huge essay, but I have a life and no time for that.
Instead I will prove it to you even if you are too terrified of women to talk to one.
This is what you must do. Go find a magazine, one aimed at women is best.
Now I want you to look at 5 magazine ads in say COSMO or a bride's magazine (which I used to create this example). Tell me this:
1) How many of the women in the pictures are butt ugly? If there are men and women in a picture, what are they doing? Why did they pose them that way? Are the women smiling and happy? So you see the social proof they are projecting? That they can be like beautiful and happy people by using this product (or to not be like unhappy people by using it).
2) How many "buzzwords" do you find. Things like "natural", "softie", "relaxing", "lasts forever", etc. any term a woman might have positive feelings for or want to identify with counts. Puns or catchy titles may also be used to elicit a positive response. They want to create those associates with their product and paint a picture of what using the product would be like as positive. Also, they want the women to identify with a typical user of the product, and to label herself as someone who uses the product (a reason why companies often give free samples which combines this and reciprocity).
3) Appeals to a need such as aesthetics, love, safety, security, or social status. For example, if the add shows a Bride as having beaituful teeth and tells the woman she can have "bride white" teeth in just 7 days. My gosh, whats wrong with her, she must admit she doesn't have "bride white" teeth like the lady in the picture. Clearly, the solution must be to get the product so she too can be smiling and happy. Thus the "neg" has been in use for a long time in advertising!
If these ads are ran and they all appeal to certain things, then why is that? Because people are predictable in a typical sense. Because it is possible to predict how the majority of people will respond, and create a sort of campaign that works effectively. It is also possible to predict how a typical person (or a subset of typical persons) will respond to a man's behavior, displayed attitudes, and communication style. What's even more if one need not be ingenious in discovering these things, because it is all well documented by now. There is no excuse why any man cannot flip the attraction switches. It's just a matter of doing.
