I've heard the word used before, but the pimp definition is new to me. I looked it up and it turns out it's used in 2 ways. Personally I'm more familiar with the 2nd definition and I would guess that's what DrBeard means. :)

Very few use it to mean a pimps sidekick.

It's like the word "gay", in the begining meant "happy", now means "homosexual". In the same way, pretty much universally (in the Uk), a ponce is a....homosexual/gay.
