Lately, I've been trying to lose a couple of pounds and get into really good shape before I enter my freshman year in college. Anyways, I was wondering what some low fat and healthy snacks are to buy. I've just recently bought some nutri-grain bars instead of chocolate granola bars and thin wheats reduced fat instead of lays potato chips. Will these products (nutri-grain and thin wheats) help me reach my goal? I've also stopped drinking soft drinks altogether and have started eating more fruit and salads.

When I'm eating healthy my favorite snacks are probably fruit cups which comes in lightly sweetened juice. They are usually only 80 calories and they are different kinds like mixed cherry, pineapple mix, and stuff like that.

The best foods are those which come in their own wrappers. Fresh fruits and nuts (raw) are the best way to go.

It certainly won't. Like Francisso said the best foods to eat are un-processed foods i.e. Lean meats, eggs, milk, cottage cheese, oats, beans, vegetables, fruits, nuts etc.

Well, for snacks a lot of times it's hard to get your hands on un-processed foods. So what would you suggest are some good lean snacks? What's wrong with thin wheats and nutri-grain bars? What are some healthy, low fat processed foods to buy? Plus, I heard too much milk, eggs, and cottage cheese can fatten a person.

Well too much of anything can fatten someone. I'm not sure what thin wheats are, but Nutri-grain are about as good for you as a candy bar.

You can make up some decent snacks with quality foods

e.g.
- tuna + pasta + mixed vegetables + nuts
- scrambled eggs + whole wheat toast
- natural yoghurt + oats + protein powder + blueberries
- cottage cheese + protein powder + natural peanut butter
- fruit smoothies w/ protein powder
- homemade protein bars (make a batch and keep in fridge - search for recipes on google)
etc.

There's plenty of options you just have to be a bit creative. If you are out a lot, prepare your meals at night or early morning and take them with you.

Buy some walnut halves in the cooking section at the grocery store. They are unsalted and make a great snack. The fat in them is not an issue - you won't eat very many before being full. Walnuts have omega-3, like cold-water fish and flax seed.
