I've been doing them regularly now, and my ENTIRE back gets sore from them. I never got as good of a workout doing pullups, rows, etc. And it's funny because you're not pulling at all with your arms. With a good straight back, ie proper form, deadlifts were the missing key in my arsenal.

I say put this argument to rest, deadlift is THE best back exercise there is.

I'm sure they work the hips and sh1t to an extent. I feel it in my back, though. When I finish the lift, I pull my shoulders back and squeeze. Anything to increase the intensity...

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Deadlifts and the variations can work the back, glutes, hamstrings, quads, grip, shoulders to an extent.

I've noticed in the about 6 weeks that i've been doing RDL's, my back, from the side view, has taken on more of a size growth. I love those mothers.

deads are awesome.. just be careful..and make sure u are using perfect form..

i had a scare about 1 1/2 years ago.. i was abt 180lbs and deadlifting 405 and i got it up twice, but as i went to lift it the third time i got a shooting pain that went all the way down my back and to my legs.. lets just say i dont mess with anything over 315 these days and i use perfect form..

so basically enjoy the results, and be safe

Jeez. That dude is a beast. Goes to show how powerlifting and olympic lifting can turn you into a machine.

Deadlifts even eliminate the need to work the traps? As Doggcrapp would say: What do you think stimulate your traps the most? A 120lb shrug or a 500lb deadlift? There is your answer! :D

"Hands down" is a bit overzealous don't you think?

What I like about deadlifts is the "practical strength" gains. My ability to pick things up and move them around is directly related to my love of compound exercises -- I have one gym day where I just do 8 sets of one compound movement. I change up every few months between the squat, deadlift, and power clean.

I'm not real big -- 5'9", 170 -- but I'm always getting remarks on how strong I am for my size. "Damn, you're strong." "You're one of those wiry little guys." I can carry things that most guys my size can't.

Deadlift, power clean, squat. They don't make you pretty but they make you strong.

Haha yea i'm about 5'10 180 and don't really look that big... but i walk up to the plate in softball and the other team expects me to have no power... so i sometimes hear "holy sh1t" from the other team's bench as i clink one off the fence. hehe

lmao.

People were amazed last January when I'd pop on 363 and deadlift it, or slide under 350 and bust out some squats...

and I only weigh 150

Wow...that's a lot of weight...I usually stick to 45's on each side, 15 reps., perfect form, and I'm spent. It doesn't take a lot of weight for me to benefit from deads.
Really, that's it? I usually never go over around 275, for 10 reps. I don't know how much of a pump I could get from just 135. I'd like to hear more....

Adding up my plates. . . . 2 45's & a 25 per side. . . 245? Around the 5th set, I usually drop the 25's. I take about 90 minutes and do 8 sets, with some cardio and stretching in between. I want to be able to do 8 X 8 of 245 before I go back to squats or cleans. Maybe in another month or two.
